New places for Free or Cheap Eye glasses
Ok so as many of you know I am always on the look out for free items or great deals. I have told you in the past about www.eyebuydirect.com which offers Rx Glasses starting at $6.95 and http://www.zennioptical.com/ which offers the same.
Well today I want to introduce you to some other places that I found.
Select Specs http://www.selectspecs.com/ has a value glasses section with glasses starting from $10. They have a huge selection of frames in all price ranges, and carry designer frames like Rayban and Oakley’s prices on this site range from $10 – $150.
Costal / Costal Contacts http://www.coastal.com has one of the best deals I have seen in a while. If you are a new customer you get your first pair of glasses free (http://www.coastal.com/glasses/cCouponEligibleGlasses.html) you just pay for the shipping. Which means that you can get a designer set of glasses for only the cost of shipping which in many cases should never exceed $13-$16 even then you may want to dispute this with their billing department since its only $5.00 to us USPS. Though they may say its handling costs but either way you still have the chance to get them for less then $100. Plus they do contacts too. However, they don’t say if contacts are covered in the first pair free or not.
FirmOO http://www.firmoo.com/free-glasses.html now this next place is a pain in the butt to navigate, but worth it for some of the awesome frames that they have and best of all they are free for first time buyers + shipping. The other problem that I found with this site is that their glasses are shipped from Hong Kong, which means that you may not have your new glasses for up to a month.
Free Sunglasses https://freesunglasses.com/ ok so I have gone over this site with a fine toothed comb and I did not find prescription glasses. They do however, make some pretty nice sunglasses that are ‘free’ but the shipping is a flat $9.00 which isnt bad for a kicking pair of shades.
Any ways I hope this helps the ol’ pocket book.

Helping my friend Ashley quit smoking
About three weeks ago me and my friend Ashley were out and about and she lit up a cigarette and kind of caught me off guard. I thought that she had quit smoking a month ago. When I questioned her she said that the cravings were really strong, and that she just couldn’t seem to kick them.
I pointed out that people try to quit smoking with less than ten percent succeeding on their first try. I didn’t want to bog her down with random a stop smoking speech. She told me how she had wanted to quit smoking because not only was it bad for her and her daughter, but it was becoming an expense that she couldn’t afford. I told her that I would help her out, and so we did a Google search and came across this website http://beatingsmoking.com/. We found that they were recruiting for a new smoking cessation study for people who were serious about quitting. We read through all of the articles and some of the case studies that they had posted there and Ashley said that she could relate to many of them. I suggested that she contact them and see if they could help her if she was really serious about stopping.
I called her a few days later and she said that she had contacted them and that they had sent her out a whole information packet filled with options and strategies that have worked in the past with other clients.
Since contacting them and starting the program she has been without a cigarette for almost a month and a half and going strong. She said that the cravings weren’t there and that she didn’t find herself wanting one either, and that just smelling the smoke made her almost ill.
I have to say that I am happy for her in her recovery. If you or you know someone who is trying to quit, try them out.

Glooko–One week Update Review

After having the new Glooko system for a week I am proud to say that I really love it. It makes having a digital logbook easy and the function ability of it makes it super easy to operate with just the push of a button. I find its user interface friendly and comprehensible, leading to the operability of any technological level from beginner to advanced.
With a few simple swipes of your finger you are able to unlock a wealth of options and settings allowing you to fully customize Glooko to fit your daily testing needs. Within the History mode you are able to input information such as meal’s had, insulin dosage, and other personal notes to help you understand your reading better.
As I have mentioned in my other postings Glooko is currently only able to connect to a select number of meters, but they are some of the top meters on the market right now and the developers promise that in future upgrades that other meters may be added. As many insurances currently offer these meters (many free of charge) I don’t see that this will be an issue. I currently have about 3 different meters, one of which isn’t compatible with the system (Bayer Contour USB).
I have reviewed other products in the past and find that Glooko has the brightest future as it has so much room to grow and evolve. My only hope is that it can be developed into an Android App as well, giving them full reign over the Smart Phone universe. I also hope to see a meter that is developed to work especially for the Glooko system, something that could either through wireless or bluetooth transfer data directly to your smart phone without the use of a cable, and maybe even include Diabetic Pumps such as OmniPod, OneTouch Ping, and The MiniMed Paradigm® REAL-Time Revel. But again this remarkable technology is still in its infancy and will no doubt be around for years to come.

If you have any questions that I haven’t covered in my previous posts or this one please feel free to contact me and ask or head over to the Glooko website www.glooko.com and take a look in their FAQ section.

Get started with Glooko in two easy steps.
Simply connect your meter to your iPhone® with the GlookoTM MeterSync Cable and download your blood glucose readings into the Glooko Logbook app.

AARP Pill Identifier
Just came across a great tool for identifying RX medications. I have the memory of kelp, and cant always remember what my meds are and I came across two pills that I wanted to know what they were and so I went to the Almighty Google and found the AARP Pill Identifier.
The good folks over at AARP have an extensive database filled with all the medications that are available here in the US.
I thought that I would pass this along for those of you who have the same problems that I do with memory.
Project Rudolph
Project Rudolph was created to give deployed and deploying service members a bit of holiday cheer. Our goal is to provide gift bags for not only the military members transitioning through the airport on days leading up to Christmas, but also for active duty Air Force members who work round the clock to keep the airport running smoothly, injured troops at the hospital, injured warriors at transition barracks, deployed Army, Navy and Marines working in Germany, and our deployed troops downrange. Last year we were able to send Project Rudolph bags to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and North Africa.
Project Rudolph has continued to grow and expand, providing 14,000 gift bags for Christmas 2009!! Our goal for 2010 is 15,000 gift bags!!! Many bags were sent downrange after the needs at the airport base and the hospital were met.
Our new goal requires more people to be involved. 15,000 brown paper lunch bags need to be decorated, 45,000 letters need to be written, 15,000 ornaments need to be donated, 15,000 candy canes need to be sent over and thousands of bags of candy need to be donated. The cost of shipping this much, also needs to be met.
For some soldiers, this was the only Christmas gift they received.
We are looking for volunteers to become involved with writing letters, providing other items for inclusion in the gift bags, and helping assemble the bags for distribution. We also need monetary donations to help with shipping costs.
